The Excel Centre has been converted to support the NHS to treat those suffering with COVID -19.  The Excel Centre, now called the Nightingale Hospital which has hosted 70,000 visitors at one time, has been converted by the military to a 4000-bed hospital, to include 2 wards. They are hoping for the Excel Nightingale Hospital to open to its first 500 patients this week, with a further 500 patients to follow in a weeks’ time. It has also been announced a further 2 nightingale hospitals will be opened at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and Manchester’s Central Convention Centre.

Cabin Crew from Easy Jet and Virgin airlines are among those who have been drafted in to retrain and work within the hospital. They will be working alongside volunteers from the NHS & St Johns Ambulance Service.
