When a new year starts, many people set big new year’s resolutions which ultimately only last a few weeks. Making changes in the new year is a great idea, but they need to be realistic and achievable.
5 Simple but Effective Changes to make this New year.
1. Have a clear out
Tidy space, tidy mind. You don’t have to clear out your entire house, most people don’t have the time for that. But you can make a start! Is there a space that you have been meaning to sort out for ages? Perhaps your wardrobe, your kitchen cupboards or that draw that you have been shoving anything and everything in for months? CLEAR IT OUT! Sorting out this small space can give you a sense of achievement and possibly even motivate you to clear out more areas of your house!
2. Make Small Changes to your Diet
Do you want to try to eat healthier this year? Eating healthier doesn’t mean cutting out everything you deem ‘unhealthy’ from your diet completely. Do you like an alcoholic drink or have a serious sweet tooth? Why not try only having these things on weekends? That way they are more of a treat and it’s a step towards a healthier diet.
3. Make a small change to be more active
New Year’s resolutions often involve exercising to improve fitness or lose weight, but it only lasts for a maximum of a few weeks. Why not make a small change to become more active that is easier to stick to? You could choose to walk to and from work on a Friday, take the dog for a longer walk on Sundays or walk to see a family member or friend once a week. Making a small change like this will make you more active but is a small step and so more achievable. In time, you may choose to up this activity slightly.
4. Think about small things that you would like to do this year
We often set ourselves big goals at the beginning of the year and then beat ourselves up for not achieving them. Thinking of small things that you would like to do in the year means you are more likely to achieve them. Perhaps you want to try to read 5 books, visit your favourite seaside a few times or spend more time with family. These are realistic and achievable goals, and a sense of achievement is great for the mind.
5. Take a moment for yourself
It is so easy to get caught up in work and other people, that we often forget to take a moment for ourselves. Once a month, make a cup of tea and watch your favourite film, have a relaxing bath with candles and a bath bomb or book to have your nails done. Choose to do something for you. You work hard, you deserve to take a moment to focus on yourself.
Health & Wellbeing is so important to us all at SR Events. We can help to source speakers to talk about this topic and help to guide you and your staff to a healthier, happier mindset to improve your work life balance.
